Wow, today was really exciting. We got a peek into the future by visiting the shop where they were doing the preliminary fitting of our timber frame. It was sooooo cool! They have most of the frame cut now and are fine tuning all the joinery so on “raising day” it fits together like a glove. If you’ve never seen a timber frame raised, you really should. Such artistry and teamwork. Of course we’ll let you know when that is going to happen and you will be welcome to attend.

All stacked up and no place to go!

Stacked house timbers

Now, back to what’s happeneing today…not much that you can see. It was really great to be able to drive up our newly graded and graveled driveway, but alas, that didn’t last very long. As soon as the ground thawed out, the driveway became impassable. I guess it has to do with the fact that the freeze/thaw cycle probably didn’t help the gravel to settle in as it should. Then the monsoon rains soaked everything . Even walking up the driveway we were sinking our shoes down several inches into the gravel. Ugh!

The good news is that the big hole out there that is our basement, although wet, is not standing in water. That’s a relief. The water is draining well.

The big "floor puzzle"

It's the biggest jigsaw puzzle we've ever put together.

Next step is to get the forms up for the concrete footers and walls in the basement so the concrete can be pumped in. Of course, that can’t be done if you can’t get trucks up the driveway. When we get the foundation and walls, then we’re ready for the sub-floor to be built. That should go fairly quickly once it’s started. Hope that’s soon. We’re ready to roll!

The joinery is amazing.

Taking in all the intricancies.

Oh, and I saw the crocus and daffodils poking out of the ground this week, and that’s always a reason to celebrate, but even more so this year!
